Parts of furnace: thermostats, hot surface ignitor, burners, and heat exchanger.

Thermostat is a gauge that can measure temperature and it sends a signal to the furnace to turn the heater on or off. Furnace sends electrical current to hot surface ignitor and ignitor will burn and will start the burner up. Burners begin to produce even flame and produces heat for the heat exchanger. Heat exchanger is an important part of the furnace. It receives the heat after it was produced by the burners (combustion gasses). The metal walls absorb the heat. The blower motor takes the air from the house to the heat exchanger, where it warms up from the walls and pushes back through the supply vent to heat the house. The combustion gases are removed from the house by the draft inducer blower. It is highly important to check your heat exchanger while inspecting the furnace. Heat exchanger deals with carbon monoxide and if there is a wear or crack and carbon monoxide can get into the house and be a big safety issue.
